Photobiomodulation (PBM) has been suggested as a potential therapeutic approach to reverse or prevent age-associated thymic involution.
Thymic involution is a natural process that occurs with aging, characterized by the reduction in size and function of the thymus gland, leading to a decline in T-cell production and immune function. Research suggests that PBM may reverse or prevent thymic involution by inducing extrapineal melatonin biosynthesis via cyclic AMP or NF-kB activation, or by stimulating bone marrow stem cells that can regenerate the thymus. This perspective puts forward a hypothesis that PBM can alter thymic involution, improve immune functioning in aged people, and even extend lifespan. ooooh...
