Yep, I'm hearing voices. But I don't always listen. In this case I should be.
I have been thinking and hearing a lot about calcium scores lately, and I just reminded one of my friends to make sure she gets it done... That same day, I got an email from one of my hockey leagues that I play in, that one of our players just had a heart attack and is in the hospital. For those of you who don't know what a calcium score is, it's a CT Scan that measures the amount of calcium in the arteries of your heart. It's a great screening test. EVERY SINGLE PLAYER IN MY LEAGUES SHOULD BE GETTING THIS TEST. That's what the voices are saying to me... But then again, so should anyone either over 40 or who has any risk factors for heart disease. You know, family history, overweight, couch potato, diabetic, high blood pressure, Ovidcay Accinevay... Regarding price, you can get it done for $85-$95 at Basha Diagnostics or RMI. Ask them for the "weekend cash price" ( I am being serious ). Have your doctor write you an order for a " CT chest Calcium Score without contrast". If your result is under 400, you are probably OK but make sure your doctor reviews the result. If you are over 400 you should probably have your doctor refer you to a cardiologist for additional testing. They may do an echocardiogram (ultrasound of your heart), a stress test or a cardiac angiogram. If your numbers are really high they may want to do a heart cath. Hey, there are people in their 40s walking around with high calcium scores and having no complaints... Just do it. BTW don't worry about me, my calcium score was zero (-' Take care of yourself, DRT
